Northwest Allen County Schools revealed the school corporation’s new branding Sept. 10 with the installation of new signage in the district office lobby. The new mascot and academic suite of brands, which includes new sports team logos for each of the district’s 11 schools, was to be presented at the Sept. 14 meeting of the NACS Board of School Trustees.
The district commissioned the creation of logos for Aspen Meadow, NACS’ new elementary school, and that prompted the decision to rebrand schools throughout the entire school corporation.
“We wanted to unify all of our schools to look more consistent with the school corporation and to provide quality digital graphics for each school so we’re all on the same page,” NACS Superintendent Chris Himsel said in a news release.
Downtown Fort Wayne creative agency One Lucky Guitar headed the brand strategy, which was approved by the school board in March 2019. Administrators, teachers, parents and even a student focus group participated in “Soul Session” branding workshops, in which participants discussed their thoughts on NACS’ identity, legacy and future. During those sessions, the district also revisited its mission and refined its core values, which include integrity, opportunity, inclusion, excellence, commitment and respect.
“OLG was blown away by how in sync we all were,” NACS Chief Communications Officer Lizette Downey said.
Himsel credited One Lucky Guitar’s attention to detail and the agency’s ability to make a significant impact with a small gesture. To remind students that they will eventually all become Carroll Chargers, One Lucky Guitar incorporated the Charger bolt into each one of the school mascots.
“They saw our essence. They saw our heart and soul,” Assistant Superintendent Gloria Shamanoff said.
