Sept. 24, 2020, has officially been named Don Ayres Day to mark the company’s 50th year in business.
Mayor Tom Henry officially delivered the proclamation at the Don Ayres Honda dealership, 4740 Lima Road.
“The mayor honored and celebrated Don Ayres for its dedication and service to the Fort Wayne Community,” according to a news release.
Sept. 1 marked the 50th anniversary of the late Don Ayres becoming a Pontiac dealer and, at age 27, the youngest General Motors dealer in the United States, according to the release. He died in July 2019 after contributing to many city causes, including when he and his business bought the lights for the Time Corners Little League’s new ballpark in 1998, which renamed the league in his honor, according to his obituary.
Today, his daughter Sara Ayres operates Don Ayres Honda and Don Ayres Acura, 5000 Illinois Road, as owner and president.
“Celebrating a 50-year milestone is a true honor,” Sara Ayres said in the news release. “At Don Ayres, we pride ourselves on continuing to operate the business with the same priorities of hard work, integrity, and service that my father started 50 years ago. We also instill those values across every Don Ayres team member. We move into the future strongly committed to serving the Fort Wayne and the surrounding communities with the latest in Honda and Acura vehicles.”
