Gracey’s Goodies is the perfect place in Leo-Cedarville to find delicious baked goods for a wedding or a graduation party, or to just stop in and buy a treat. From iced sugar cookies to designer cakes, Gracey’s Goodies has it all.

Grace Geha, owner, had always wanted to start a business. She originally started baking as a way to make friends. She said, “When I was in seventh or eighth grade, back in Toledo, Ohio, I got a new bus route and wanted to make new friends, so I decided to make them cookies.” Geha said the kids came back at the end of the day, after sharing her cookies with friends, and said “We need more Gracey cookies!”

Geha attended University of Saint Francis, where she earned a business degree. During her freshman year, Geha entered a business plan competition for extra credit. She presented her business idea, Gracey’s Goodies, and ended up winning the competition. Geha said many of the judges were local business owners and were eager to help her start her shop. According to Geha, it was all the positive feedback that gave her the confidence to start her business.

Gracey’s Goodies has been open for over a year. Geha said, “We got approval from the health board the day everything shut down on Friday, March 12th.” Geha claimed the biggest challenge when she opened was dealing with all the little details. She said, “There are a lot of details that go into opening. For instance, not just dealing with the health department but the building department as well. And, trying to mesh all of those contractors, permits, all of those things was really hard for me.”

Now, though, she is happy to be in business and Gracey’s Goodies is flooded with orders. The spring time of year is the busiest for the bakery because it is wedding and graduation season. Geha said, “Weddings are so much fun because you’re a part of someone’s biggest day in their life, and graduations are always fun as well.” This season, the bakery is getting a lot of weddings that were pushed back due to COVID, all on top of regular orders, making this spring a busy season.

Hannah Simpson is a Gracey’s Goodies full-time employee. A Leo High School alumna, Simpson graduated from Ivy Tech’s culinary school. She and Geha met at a cupcake competition. Simpson enjoys decorating cakes, especially intricate wedding cakes. As for Geha, she leaves most of the cakes to Simpson and spends her time icing sugar cookies.

The Gracey’s Goodies staff also includes several Leo students who have a passion for baking, Geha said. She said she just had to teach them a few tips and tricks to ensure uniformity.

Geha loves the location of her store. She decided to open in Leo because she “didn’t want to invade another bakery’s space.” There are plenty of bakeries in Fort Wayne, but there was not a single one in Leo before Gracey’s Goodies. Plus, Geha thinks the perfect place for her shop is the quaint and cute town of Leo.

Gracey’s Goodies is located at 10526 Walnut St., Leo-Cedarville. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Gracey’s Goodies is closed Sundays and Mondays. Call 260-627-2771.
