It’s been a good 34 years of providing a place for a nice cocktail and a good steak with some Macedonian dishes, but it’s time for Bobby Shopoff to close his restaurant so he can spend time with his grandchildren.

Shopoff’s Steakhouse, 12012 US 24, Fort Wayne, is closing its doors Aug. 31.

Established in 1985, the southwest restaurant has served a couple of generations of customers who’ve enjoyed its hand-cut steaks and Macedonian chicken and meatball soups.

The restaurant posted on its Facebook account Aug. 13:

“34 years ago Bobby & Doris opened the doors of Shopoff’s with one bar stool and their hopes of making SW Fort Wayne part of their family. Seeing kids grow to return with their new families these aspirations & dreams came true.

“Bobby, aka Dedo (Macedonian G-Pa), is retiring to spend quality time with his grandkids! What the future holds for the building and the Shopoff’s Steakhouse name is unknown at this point. As life unfolds, we will keep everyone updated. ... We love you all!”

Doris Shopoff died in 2012.
