Historic Fairmont Place neighborhood representatives dedicated Fort Wayne’s latest mural Aug. 5.

The Packard Area Planning Alliance and artists Theoplis Smith, aka Phresh Laundry, and Matthew Plett planned to attend the event.

The “Better Together” mural on the side of the Tasty Pizza building, 4302 Fairfield Ave., depicts those words with the letters scattered through it with cardinal birds. It came about as part of the city’s Neighborhood Improvement Grant Program.

In late 2018, the city announced that the Community Development Division had started the Neighborhood Improvement Grant program with 11 inaugural recipients. The grants are for projects that beautify public spaces and strengthen community involvement, according to a city statement.

The Historic Fairmont Place neighborhood received $5,000 for the mural.

Community Development plans to award a total of $50,000 for the 2019-20 Neighborhood Improvement Grant. Applications are due Aug. 30. For information, go to
