Police line do not cross tape

A woman heading into an east-side Fort Wayne Kroger was severely injured when she was struck by a vehicle, according to Fort Wayne Police.

The woman, whose identity wasn't released, was struck outside the Kroger at 6310 E. State Blvd. in Georgetown Square before Fort Wayne Police Department officers were called at around 6:14 p.m. Nov. 25, according to police spokesman Officer Jason Anthony.

Officers responding to a report of a vehicle crash with injuries determined the crash involved a sport utility vehicle and a pedestrian.

Medics took the pedestrian to a local hospital in serious condition. Once at the hospital a doctor downgraded her condition to life-threatening. The woman who was driving the SUV was alone in the vehicle and was not injured. She remained at the scene and was interviewed by investigators.

According to Anthony and based on preliminary information, the following occurred:

The SUV was headed eastbound through the parking lot directly in front of the Kroger entrance. The pedestrian was entering the store and crossed in front of the SUV and was struck. Investigators said it does not appear alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.

This incident remains under investigation by the FWPD and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
