The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that a new signal is planned for the intersection of S.R. 37 and St. Joe Center/Irving roads on or after June 17, weather permitting.
Beginning that morning, INDOT contractor Shambaugh & Sons will begin working on the new signal installation. Drivers can expect lane restrictions and traffic directed by a flagger near the intersection. Shambaugh had the winning bid at $155,000.
The project also includes the installation of flashing yellow arrows on left-turn signals. Such arrows have been shown to improve traffic flow and reduce waiting times at signals, according to an INDOT statement.
Work is expected to be completed by late September, weather permitting.
More information about the flashing yellow left-turn arrow is available on INDOT’s website at www.in.gov/indot/3202.htm. A video on INDOT’s YouTube channel (IndianaDOT) explains the flashing yellow arrow phases at www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmSfBsVKs7o.
