Girl Scout cookie sale David Love

David Love looks over the cookie selections from Girl Scout Troop 20623 of Arlington Park on Jan. 12 at Kroger, 1125 W. State Blvd.

The annual cookie sale in the Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana council began Jan. 11. A new gluten-free cookie, Caramel Chocolate Chip, made its debut alongside S’mores, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Shortbread, Caramel deLites, Lemonades and Thanks-A-Lot.

Cost per box in the GSNI-M council is $4. The new gluten-free cookie is $5 a box. The sale continues through March 3.

The sale is designed to teach girls entrepreneurial and leadership skills to help them succeed throughout life, according to a statement. All cookie proceeds stay local.

The local council made a little over $4 million last year and sold a little over 1 million boxes, said Ruth.Strawser, the council’s director of brand and strategy management.
