NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Fort Wayne has announced its lineup of Education Night speakers from January through March.

On the fourth Tuesday of most months NAMI schedules a speaker from an organization outside NAMI to talk about topics related to mental health.

These “Education Night” programs, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. at The Carriage House, 3327 Lake Ave.

Following is the lineup for the first three Education Night speakers of 2020:

Jan. 28: Steve Lee will discuss Genesight, a psychotropic test, the results of which can inform your doctor about genes that may impact how you metabolize or respond to certain medications.

Feb. 25: Tom Weir from the Carriage House Club House will share information about their work support program.

March 24: Stephanie Haynes from Aperion Care Fort Wayne will discuss their Harmony Unit, which serves patients with psychiatric needs, including bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia and other serious mental health conditions.

Darryl Strawberry to share story

Former Major League Baseball player Darryl Strawberry will be in Fort Wayne this spring to share his personal testimony about God’s healing grace in the midst of addiction.

Strawberry will be the guest speaker at 2020 “It’s a Spring Thing” on April 28. The event is a fundraiser for the Biblical counseling ministry of Cross Connections. It takes place at Parkview Mirro Center, 10622 Parkview Plaza Drive, and includes dining, fellowship and inspiration. Tickets are $100.

Board of Health 2020 meeting schedule

The Allen County Executive Board of Health will meet in regular session on the following dates in 2020:

Oct. 19

All meetings take place at 5:45 p.m. in Room 035 of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St., unless otherwise noted.

A copy of the meeting agenda will be posted to the department’s website,, no later than 48 hours before the meeting, which is open to the public.
