Allen County Public Library’s board voted to no longer require patrons to wear masks inside its buildings effective May 28.

ACPL Executive Director Susan Baier asked for the public’s patience as the libraries change their signs from the previous requirement.

The board also voted in agreement at its May 27 meeting on Baier’s request that staff masks remain as a library management requirement for a few more weeks. As of now, ages under 12 can not be vaccinated against COVID-19 and Baier said she is also awaiting Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s review of CDC mask policies with regards to worker protections. She would not require staff masks at outside children’s programs.

She also said the library will look at holding some Rock the Plaza concerts later this summer. The library announced in April that the series was canceled for the second year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
