Fort Wayne will see at least one parade this year after all.
Although the Memorial Day parade and ceremony were canceled, those events will get a second chance on Independence Day.
The Allen County Council of Veterans Organizations announced May 18 that the parade will line up at 10 a.m. July 4, at the corner of State Boulevard and Parnell Avenue. The parade will start at 11 a.m. and travel north on Parnell Avenue to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, 4000 Parnell Ave.
Guests attending the Independence Day ceremony will be directed to enter the Parnell Avenue employee parking lot entrance at the west side of the complex. The ceremony will be held immediately following the parade just outside of the Coliseum Memorial Hall at Veterans Plaza.
The veterans council canceled the Memorial Day parade due to COVID-19 and the restrictions set out by Gov. Eric Holcomb and the “Back on Track Indiana Plan.”
Additionally, the Veterans National Memorial Shrine and Museum, at 2122 O’Day Road in Fort Wayne, has cancelled all gatherings at the pavilion and museum on Memorial Day weekend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We hope to reopen on June 14 and have a 4th of July celebration soon after that,” said Greg Bedford, commander of the Shrine and Museum.
