It was bittersweet to see the Mi Pueblo Mexican restaurant going in on Minnich Road in New Haven.
I love the dishes at Mi Pueblo, and I see the patio is open at the restaurant at 2419 W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne.
The New Haven site at 1326 Minnich Road, is where the Golden Gate Chinese restaurant was. The last time I was there my husband and I ate with a friend and his wife. The friend was killed a couple of months ago in a car crash. It was a good memory of a good friend as I looked at the brown-paper covered windows. The outside signs are up, so I hope to see what’s inside — murals and colorful chairs like the Fort Wayne restaurant’s — soon.
It was Charky’s Family Restaurant, Rich’s Cafe, Keliah’s House of Pancakes and Nuevo Charros, all within a few years. Now, the restaurant building at 1329 W. State Blvd., will be torn down. An application to the Fort Wayne Zoning hearing officer by AJ’s LLC seeks variances as part of a project to create a 12,000-square-foot multiple-tenant retail building. Construction would be completed in 24 months.
Crescendo Coffee & More has added to the choices in Quimby Village. The new coffee shop opened adjacent to the expanded Club Room at The Clyde at 1806 Bluffton Road, Fort Wayne.
I tried the pizza bagel, which had a dusting of Parmesan cheese for added flavor, and lemon poppyseed macarons. I picked up a bag of whole-bean Utopian Coffee as I eyed the numerous flavors of ice cream: Superman, Sweet Georgia Peach, Death by Chocolate, Rainbow Sherbet and more. It uses the locally designed Modbar coffee delivery equipment. It’s open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and staff are masked against COVID-19 transmission.
The opening coincides with an expansion of the Club Room at The Clyde, which doubled in size. It includes a larger stage for live performances as well as a small patio.
