Eight industrial sites in northeast Indiana received "shovel-ready" designation, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. announced Tuesday.
 
The industrial sites are located in Adams, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble and Whitley counties. The sites are in addition to more than 80 sites across the state that have received the shovel-ready designation.
 
Shovel-ready sites are certified by the state's Fast Access Site Team that includes representatives from the IEDC, the Office of Rural and Community Affairs, the Department of Natural Resources, the Department of Environmental Management, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture and the state Department of Homeland Security.
 
Northeast Indiana sites receiving the designation are:
 
• Decatur Industrial Park Phase III, 67 acres, Adams County;
 
• Kendallville East Industrial Park, 111 acres, Noble County;
 
• Fawn River Crossing, 114 acres, LaGrange County;
 
• Markle Industrial Park, 55 acres, Huntington County;
 
• Rail Connect Business Park, 118 acres, Whitley County;
 
• Garrett Industrial Park-North Site, 78 acres, DeKalb County;
 
• Watson property site, 70 acres, DeKalb County; and
 
• Yoder property site, 59 acres, DeKalb County.
 
"Our shovel-ready program gives companies the flexibility to accelerate the process of locating or expanding their operations," Dan Hasler, secretary of commerce and chief executive officer of the IEDC, said in a statement. "When time is of the essence, it is essential to provide these growing businesses with a variety of immediate and equipped choices."
