Local pet stylist Candice Kurtz opened Kandikutz Salon and Spa June 1 at 3213 N. Anthony Blvd.

A local pet stylist has outgrown her mobile pet grooming business and opened a new grooming salon to provide additional services to her growing clientele. Kandikutz Salon and Spa, owned by Candice Kurtz, opened June 1 at 3213 N. Anthony Blvd. (just north of Crescent Avenue) in Fort Wayne.

Kandikutz provides cage-free appointments and services dogs of all breeds and all sizes. “Unlike a lot of other salons, I offer one-on-one style appointments, dog massages, and an array of other salon spa services for our furry friends,” Kurtz said in a news release. All styles of pet cuts and coloring services are available, and the salon also provides a pick-up and drop-off service for her customers’ convenience.

Kandikutz Salon and Spa grew out of a business that Kurtz started last summer called KandiKutz House Call Pet Grooming Salon. “I was grooming my clients’ dogs in their backyards, in order to provide a service safely during the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said. “I have since grown my business beyond house-call capacity and decided to provide my clients with a storefront.” The new salon not only allows her to better serve her customers year-round, but it also provides a more comfortable setting for all the various services that Kandikutz offers.

During her 15 years of experience as a pet stylist, Kurtz has achieved several different certifications, including dog CPR and first aid, dog massage, senior dogs, and puppy handling. She is an AKC Safe Groomer and a member of the National Dog Groomers Association of America, Inc. She said she hopes to eventually operate multiple spa locations and to train dog groomers to work under her company. Kurtz currently employs one part-time bather and transporter.
