A number of banks serving northeast Indiana have been watching the impact of the government shutdown for indications it could affect their clients, and 1st Source Bank has taken a pre-emptive step of offering a special assistance program.

The U.S. government shutdown, now entering its fourth week, put about 800,000 federal employees out of work. An estimated 1,200 of those are based in the Fort Wayne metro area, according to Ellen Cutter, director of the Community Research Institute at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
