Indiana Tech this fall set an enrollment record, surpassing the 5,000-student mark for the first time, university officials announced.
Indiana Tech reported 1,025 traditional students and 4,419 nontraditional students for a total of 5,444. Last fall, total enrollment was 4,898.
The burgeoning enrollment at Indiana Tech follows a similar trend among many northeast Indiana colleges and universities.

The Northeast Indiana Fund and five northeast Indiana economic development organizations will host an economic development forum Sept. 16 at Huntington University.
The topic of the forum is “Community and Industry Relationships.”
Mark Becker, executive director of the Northeast Indiana Fund, said in a statement community and industry leaders from throughout northeast Indiana will examine the role economic developers play in the health and growth of existing companies.

(AP) — State officials are looking to revamp Indiana's college financial aid system to make more money available for older students.
State Higher Education Commissioner Teresa Lubbers said it is likely that millions of dollars in aid could be redirected to students who need it most, including the adult students looking to finish a degree or find a second career.

(AP) — Workers at an Ohio auto parts plant that is slated to close will vote on a new contract this weekend.
Local leaders hope a new agreement could save some of the 214 jobs at the plant in North Baltimore, Ohio.
Continental Structural Plastics announced plans last month to shut down the northwest Ohio plant and move into a closed factory in Huntington.
Union and company officials haven't said whether the contract vote could change any of those plans.

(Bloomberg) — Job openings in the U.S. rose in July, a sign some employers are getting ready to expand as the world’s largest economy recovers, a government report showed.
Openings increased by 178,000 to 3.04 million, the Labor Department said Wednesday in Washington, D.C. The number of people hired fell from the prior month and separations decreased.
