The event once known as Black Expo, renamed years ago as the more inclusive “Summer Celebration,” will be held this year in Fort Wayne Aug. 16-22. Most of the activities will take place in and around McMillen Park. The Fort Wayne chapter of Indiana Black Expo was one of eight formed in 1973 by a group of civic and religious leaders to showcase the achievements of African Americans in business and the arts. A group of local artists will combine their talents at a June 27 art fair that will raise money for three animal welfare organizations.
