Brunswick Corp. will close its aluminum boat production facility in Little Falls, Minn., and transfer the work to facilities in Fort Wayne, New York Mills, Minn., and Lebanon, Mo., the company announced in a statement.

Production of Crestliner and Triton fish boats and pontoons will gradually be moved to the three facilities, and the Little Falls plant is expected to cease production in the fall.

Brunswick said as many as 50 percent of the jobs in Little Falls could be transferred to New York Mills and Lebanon. The company did not say if any jobs would be transferred to Fort Wayne.

Brunswick Chairman and CEO Dustan McCoy said in the statement the consolidation stems from a challenging economy and Brunswick’s goal of improving quality, productivity and efficiency.

“While consistent with our manufacturing strategy, such decisions are always difficult,” said McCoy.

“This decision does not reflect upon the Little Falls workforce or product, but is the result of our overarching need to develop a more efficient manufacturing footprint that is appropriate to the marine marketplace, which has been under pressure for several years.”
