Reversal: State jobless benefits go on past Friday

Posted: Thursday, February 28, 2013 10:28 am

(AP) — About 32,000 unemployed Indiana residents will continue receiving unemployment benefits, even if automatic federal spending cuts take effect this week, under a policy reversal announced Wednesday night by the Department of Workforce Development.

Commissioner Scott Sanders posted a message on the agency's website saying it would continue "with full payment of extended unemployment compensation until further notice." Sanders said the U.S. Department of Labor confirmed to the state agency that there would be no immediate disruption in unemployment benefits, even if the automatic cuts take effect Friday.
